Dental Emergency

Dental emergencies can occur anytime, and should not be ignored. If you have a dental emergency during surgery hours, please phone our practice in Bristol immediately on 01172 591 002 and we will give you the first available appointment.

When a dental emergency arises, you deserve to have responsive support and high-quality treatment and care.

Identifying a Dental Emergency

An emergency dental appointment could save you from needing more comprehensive treatment in the future. Such appointments can also save teeth from extraction as a result of an infection.

The following problems are classed as dental emergencies:

• Swelling in the face or jaw area.
• Intense pain that prevents you from sleeping or going about your daily routine.
• Bleeding that lasts more than 20 minutes.
• Controlled bleeding as a result of trauma to the face.
• A knocked-out tooth.
• A broken tooth that is causing pain in your mouth (such as if it has a sharp edge catching on the soft tissues in your mouth).

When do I need to go to A&E?

If you experience any of the following symptoms, you should go to A&E immediately:

• Facial swelling that is affected your breathing or from opening your mouth.
• Trauma that has caused vomiting, loss of consciousness or blurred vision.
• Significant bleeding from anywhere in the mouth.

Dental emergencies are generally seen on the same day if you are a plan member and if you phone as soon as possible after 8:00 in the morning.
